Juan Taveras is a people-oriented Human Resources and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) professional with 18+ years of experience designing, orchestrating, and championing inclusive workplace initiatives that foster psychological safety, strengthen organizational alignment, and increase engagement.

With a degree in Business Administration and Hospitality Management from Syracuse University, Juan started his professional career as a restaurant and hotel manager. Since then, Juan has held HR and DEI leadership roles at several innovative and growing nonprofit organizations. He attained a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification from the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) in June of 2014, a Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification in January of 2015, a Senior Professional in Human Resource (SPHR) certification from HRCI in June of 2017, and a Diversity and Inclusion for HR certification from Cornell University in October 2021. Juan maintains all of his certifications by participating in continuing education (CE) and staying on top of industry news, updates, and trends.

An advocate for the advancement of diversity, Juan has helped leaders create equitable and inclusive work environments by leveraging his keen understanding of the nuances and sensitivities involved in spearheading organizational-wide culture transformation. Juan is a highly engaged, intuitive, and collaborative leader who builds strong relationships at all levels, with a talent for advising and coaching leaders, gaining trust, and convening stakeholders to co-create vision and strategy. Juan’s unique blend of experiences and passion for the human resources profession make him an ideal partner for any leader looking to bring out the best in their team members.

In addition to his professional experience, Juan is a husband, a father, and an entrepreneur. Juan lives in Phoenix, AZ with his wife and three daughters and is the CEO of DEI Pro Finder, a public online directory for DEI consultants. In his spare time, Juan can be found doing homework and/or playing with his kids, working on house projects, cooking, or watching romantic comedies with his wife.

Bilingual Licensed Clinical Psychologist and CEO of Coral Valley Psychological Services
 

Dr. Taveras is a bilingual, Dominican American, licensed clinical psychologist and founder of Coral Valley Psychological Services, a group practice dedicated to addressing the psychosocial concerns of individuals, couples, and families, with a special emphasis upon the Latino immigrant community. Dr. Taveras’ team at Coral Valley is comprised of bilingual, Latino/a therapists who share her passion for serving our Latino community, and who join her in offering evidence-based psychotherapy and psychological evaluation services for a variety of purposes, including immigration-related concerns. Rooted in her commitment to training and education, Dr. Taveras supervises a year-long practicum for doctoral student therapists in partnership with Northern Arizona University, and also hosts a monthly Junta de Consultas for Spanish-speaking psychologists across the state of Arizona.

Prior to founding Coral Valley, Dr. Taveras was a staff psychologist on the PTSD Clinical Team with the Phoenix VA Healthcare System, where she previously completed a Clinical Internship with rotations in PTSD, General Mental Health, and Health Psychology. Dr. Taveras graduated with a Doctorate of Psychology from Long Island University, where she also taught as an adjunct instructor, offering psychology theory and assessment courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Taveras also holds Masters degrees in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University Teachers College, as well as in Education from Pace University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology and Spanish For International Service from the Catholic University of America.

Before becoming a mental health professional, Dr. Taveras was a dual language educator and instructional coach in New York City public schools, where she also led a team of educators in the nonprofit sector. As a Dominican American, she was raised in a bilingual, bicultural home. As such, building multicultural competency is an ongoing value at the center of her practice.

Currently, Dr. Taveras lives in Phoenix, Arizona, with her husband and three daughters. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoys early morning jogs, salsa dancing, crocheting baby blankets, and eating chips and guacamole.
